Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala appointed WTO's first female Director-General

Nigerian Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was named Monday, February 15, the first woman and first African to head the World Trade Organization (WTO), in the hope of ending years of blocking the institution. “WTO members have just agreed to appoint Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next WTO Director General. The decision was taken by consensus at a special meeting of the General Council of the organization today, ”announced the WTO, about 15 minutes after the opening of the meeting.
