Hanover (dpa / lby) - With the corona pandemic, sick leave due to depression and burnout in Bavaria has been extended.

That comes from data published on Monday by the health insurance company KKH.

Accordingly, the Bavarian members of the health insurance fund who were on sick leave due to mental illness were absent on average 42.7 days in 2020, almost a working week longer than in the previous year.

This is not just a Bavarian phenomenon.

The Hanover-based KKH registered a similar trend nationwide.

At the KKH, three related forms of mental illness are in third, fourth and fifth place in the sick leave statistics: Depressive episodes, adjustment disorders and recurring depression.

Respiratory diseases - essentially colds - and back pain are at the forefront.

But employees are usually absent from work for much longer because of mental illnesses: the average absenteeism for all diagnoses was 17.3 days nationwide.
