The Japan Earthquake Investigation Commission held a press conference on February 15 to announce that the magnitude 7.3 earthquake that occurred in the coastal waters of Fukushima on the evening of the 13th was an aftershock of the 2011 “3.11” earthquake, and such aftershocks may occur again in the next 10 years.

The investigation committee said that the earthquake on the evening of the 13th triggered a 20-centimeter tsunami in Ishinomaki Port, Miyagi Prefecture, and a 10-centimeter tsunami was observed at the Ayukawa Beach in Ishinomaki City, Sendai Port, and the coast of Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on the 15th that this earthquake is the first earthquake on the Pacific coast of Japan's Tohoku region to reach a magnitude of over 6 since April 2011.
