Kiel (AP) - Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) considers Easter vacation to be realistic despite the corona pandemic.

"With us in Germany I see the possibility that we will make domestic tourism possible by then," said Günther on Monday in Kiel.

"And the most important thing from my point of view is: Easter is still seven weeks away, and today it is definitely wrong to cancel holidays regardless of the incidence."

Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU), on the other hand, sees no chance for holiday trips at Easter.

"I am in favor of speaking truths: Unfortunately, there can be no Easter holiday in Germany this year," Kretschmer said of "Bild am Sonntag".

Too much mobility in April is poison.

"We would destroy everything that we have achieved since mid-December."

Günther is much more optimistic about the current development.

The federal and state governments have agreed to include restaurants and hotels in the next steps.

"And at the present time I don't see anything that speaks against continuing to work on this goal."

Of course, tests and how to deal with areas in which there are a relatively large number of corona cases must also be discussed.

"But I definitely see prospects for tourism from Easter."

In almost all federal states, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days is now below 100, said Günther.

"We hardly have any hotspots."

He will not advise hotel owners to accept bookings for the Easter days.

"But I cannot guarantee that the numbers will continue to develop so positively."
