Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - Because of a life-threatening attack with a kitchen ax in a Chinese restaurant, a 23-year-old man was permanently housed in a psychiatric hospital by the Frankfurt Regional Court on Monday.

From the perpetrator suffering from paranoid schizophrenia a "danger to the general public" emanates, the court quoted in the judgment from the expertise of an expert.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

The act took place in June last year in the kitchen of the restaurant in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, where the later victim worked as a cook.

The 23-year-old Chinese took the kitchen ax and hit him several times in the head.

Then he also injured him with a large kitchen knife.

The critically injured cook had to undergo emergency surgery in the hospital.

In court, the defendant stated that he could no longer remember the attack.

Inner voices would have asked him to do so beforehand.

In the process, he apologized several times to his victim.

According to the information provided by the expert, the accused should expect a treatment period of between four and five years.

The public prosecutor and the defense had also spoken out in favor of the detention.
