The (We Recording) human rights platform documented the deterioration of the health of the Egyptian journalist Hisham Abdel Aziz inside his prison cell in Tora investigation prison, south of the capital, Cairo, and activists launched the tag (Get Hisham treated).

The platform said in a statement yesterday, Sunday, that according to the medical reports it reviewed, Hisham suffers from the presence of blue water in the eye (high pressure in the eyes).

She added that if the treatment is stopped, the pressure rises completely, which is not tolerated by the optic nerve and exposes it to the possibility of losing vision completely in the eyes.

In addition, Hisham suffers from severe calcification of the stapes bone in the middle ear and it is gradually increasing, which prompted the family to submit more than one petition for surgery outside the prison hospital due to the seriousness of the operation, but without response, according to the statement.

Hisham (43 years) was arrested in the summer of 2019 after returning to Egypt to spend his annual leave, to be subjected to enforced disappearance before he was brought before the prosecution in connection with Case No. 1365 of 2018 State Security, and then recycled in connection with Case No. 1956 of 2019 State Security.

During an interview with the evening program on Al-Jazeera Mubasher, human rights activist Haitham Ghoneim said that the (We Are Recording) platform moved after Hisham's wife published an appeal days ago, appealing to the authorities to release her husband after his health condition deteriorated and he needed urgent surgical intervention.

He added that after checking the medical reports of Hisham's case, it was already revealed that he was at risk of losing his vision completely if he was not treated quickly in a specialized hospital, in addition to that he needed another surgery in his ear after his hearing deteriorated as well.

Ghoneim called on the Egyptian authorities to speedily release Hisham, who does not pose any danger to the system, and take into account his health and humanitarian situation, especially since he is born with this congenital defect and is being treated for it before his arrest, calling for an end to the suffering of Hisham and his family, as well as an end to the "revenge" situation imposed by the regime on The people.

Regarding the details of the arrest, the human rights activist said that National Security arrested Hisham at Cairo airport upon his return to the country in mid-2019 and stripped him of his phone and passport, and when he arrived at his home, they summoned him to the airport again.

He added that when Hisham arrived, he was surprised that he was arrested and then forcibly disappeared and appeared after 3 days in the State Security Prosecution, then he was transferred to solitary confinement for 15 days pending investigation and then to Tora prison, which witnessed many Corona injuries amid the secrecy of the prison administration.

He explained that Hisham's family had submitted numerous petitions to the Egyptian Prisons Authority administration to treat him outside the prison at the family's expense, but to no avail.

And about the secret of the timing of the family’s move now, Ghoneim said that Joe Biden’s assumption of the presidency of the United States gave hope to many families of journalists by pressing the regimes to act and help them.

Kawthar Al-Khouli, director of Women for Justice, said her colleague Hisham is known among journalists for his gentleness and diligence, his responsibility and the help of his colleagues.

She added that what he is exposed to in prison is like a slow death, and that the regime deals with the health and humanitarian situation of journalists as a political struggle or political trade-off.

She explained that the detention centers in Egypt are known to be unsanitary, and prisoners suffer from difficult health conditions, especially with the cold and corona, in addition to psychological and family problems.
