It was during Saturday that the Police Authority came out with the information that a suspected kidnapping is being investigated in the county.

In addition to kidnapping, the case was also classified as extremely serious assault.

The report was made after "a person contacted the police and told them that a man seemed to have been taken away against his will and would have been beaten".

A strange turn

Already the same evening, however, the case took a strange turn when the police got in touch with the man, who was then with relatives in a small town in Östergötland County.

The man was heard by police and an ambulance was called.

However, the person did not have to go to hospital for treatment.

Now suspects false alarms

On Sunday morning, the police confirmed that the investigation is continuing, but that new information has been added which has led the police and prosecutors to question what has happened.

Therefore, a new criminal suspicion - false alarm - has been added to the investigation.

- This may change further in the near future.

Information has emerged that makes us question what has happened, says Åsa Willsund, the police's press spokesperson at Police Region East.

You have worked for the police for over ten years, have you heard of anything similar?

-

As it is now, I can say that it is not entirely uncommon to suspect false alarms, but in this context when there are serious criminal classifications, I feel that I have not seen it so many times.

There are usually less serious cases where you can see false alarms, says Åsa Willsund.
