Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - One year after the Frankfurt Awo scandal began to be dealt with, the new leadership of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo) has also initiated a legal change of course.

The first lawsuit against the former head of the district association has already been filed, said Petra Rossbrey, chairwoman of the honorary presidium of the German press agency, on the recourse claims that are being asserted against the old officials.

They assume that the legal disputes with those primarily responsible, from whom the association has now separated, can be concluded this year.

"The damage is of course very great, but we have no more liquidity problems," said Rossbrey.

An economic plan had been passed - and unlike its predecessors, this was "not just nodding off", but was critically reviewed and discussed.

"We are no longer driven to stumble from one catastrophe to the next, but can now shape the further development of the association," stressed Rossbrey on the status of the process of coming to terms with economic consolidation.

On February 15, 2020, the Awo delegates elected a new presidium, which was supposed to clear up the scandal of excessive salaries, luxury company cars and financial ties with a new board.

The Frankfurt public prosecutor investigated the then management manager on suspicion of fraud and breach of trust.

The investigation is still ongoing.

The new Awo board puts the economic damage caused by the former officials at at least 6.3 million euros.

"It is of course a marathon," said Awo CEO Steffen Krollmann.

«We have an economic plan, a personnel plan, a liquidity plan.

We are planning investments in the seven-digit range in the large properties, such as the renewal of elevator systems. "

He is also confident about the talks with the city of Frankfurt.

«We know that we still have a way to go and that we have to regain trust.

But that doesn't mean that we say yes and amen to everything.

But it is important that we talk to each other, not about each other. "
