Munich (dpa / lby) - According to Bavaria's Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU), almost all Bavarian retirement and nursing homes have now been vaccinated - and more than half of the residents have full protection with the second vaccination.

The mobile vaccination teams had administered initial vaccinations in 98 percent of the facilities since the end of December, Holetschek announced on Sunday.

“Around 98,000 nursing home residents received an initial vaccination, that is more than three quarters of the residents.

A second vaccination - and with it full immune protection - already have around 65,000 residents, i.e. more than half. "

The minister added: “I am optimistic that we will soon have reached all those willing to be vaccinated in the facilities.

This is an important milestone in the fight against the virus. "

It is one of the highest duties to do everything possible to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

A positive trend can also be seen with infections in the facilities.

As of February 9, around 1.9 percent of the residents were sick with Corona.

"Compared to the numbers a month ago, we see a decrease of almost two thirds."

It has been shown time and again that SARS-CoV-2 spreads particularly quickly in care facilities.

The consequences are often severe illnesses, some with deaths.

"The new Corona variants do not yet dominate the scene, but I see them with growing concern."
