Kiel (dpa / lno) - The four independent cities in Schleswig-Holstein took in millions again last year through traffic violations despite the corona pandemic.

The total for Kiel, Lübeck, Flensburg and Neumünster was a good 12.44 million euros, according to a survey by the German press agency.

That was around 630,000 euros less than the year before.

Neumünster received a total of 1.52 million euros in 2020 from moving and stationary traffic.

That was 290,000 euros less than 2019. "Presumably, the lockdown with less traffic and of course the concentration of the municipal security service on controls to comply with the measures to combat the spread of the Covid 19 virus are characteristic of lower income," said city spokesman Stephan Beitz.

In the state capital of Kiel it was 5.91 million euros last year (2019: 6.03 million euros).

Mobile measurement units accounted for 2.03 million euros and speed cameras (including red light violations) a good two million euros.

A city spokeswoman emphasized that the income would be offset by considerable material and personnel costs.

Lübeck posted a fine of just under 3.6 million euros in 2020.

That was almost 500,000 euros less than the year before.

More than 1.63 million euros resulted from traffic violations last year.

The second largest item was parking violations with 1.27 million.

Flensburg reported a slight decrease from 1.72 to 1.7 million euros.
