Pokljuka (dpa) - After their historic sprint debacle, the German biathletes hardly made amends at the World Cup in Pokljuka.

In the pursuit over 12.5 kilometers, Arnd Peiffer ended up only in 20th place after four shooting errors.

The sprint Olympic champion started from 36th place and could not work his way forward decisively.

The backlog of the 33-year-old from the Harz was 2: 58.0 minutes.

The French Emilien Jacquelin defended his pursuit title in a sensational manner with several rapid-fire interludes.

Without a penalty loop, the 25-year-old was again world champion and prevailed 7.3 seconds ahead of Swede Sebastian Samuelsson (0 penalties).

Bronze went to the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö (2).

Jacquelin started third.

After poor performance at the shooting range, Benedikt Doll (6) finished 31st, Johannes Kühn (7) only made it to 41st place. Erik Lesser, 66th of the sprint, even missed qualifying for the hunting race of the best 60.

In the sprint on Friday, the ski hunters had the worst result in their World Cup history and were without a chance of podium places even before the start on Sunday.
