Neuburg-Schrobenhausen (dpa / lby) - The avian influenza continues to spread in Bavaria.

In the Upper Bavarian district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen there was a case of a wild bird, the local district office announced on Saturday.

According to the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), the H5N8 virus was detected in gray goose.

In order to prevent further spread of avian influenza to other livestock and domestic animals, poultry in the district must be housed in closed stalls from Sunday.

In addition, the numbers of dead animals and laid eggs must now also be documented in small farms.

Avian influenza is not considered dangerous for humans.

The animal disease has appeared in Bavaria since November.

There were last cases in the districts of Starnberg, Passau, Bayreuth and Haßberge.

The infectious disease occurs mainly in water birds.

The highest incidence and death rates are observed in chickens and turkeys - in some cases up to 100 percent.
