Stuttgart (dpa) - The leadership crisis at VfB Stuttgart is getting worse.

Shortly after the 1-1 draw against Hertha BSC on Saturday, the supervisory board of the Bundesliga club announced the dismissal of two board members.

“At the same time, the supervisory board expresses its unreserved trust in the chairman of the board, Thomas Hitzlsperger,” the committee announced.

According to the investigation reports and legal opinions available to the supervisory board, the ex-national player acted “in accordance with the law” when clearing up the burdensome data protection affair.

On the other hand, Jochen Röttgermann, the previous director of marketing and sales, and Stefan Heim, who was responsible for finances, administration and operations, have to go “with immediate effect”.

The names of the two officials were not mentioned in the communication.

The succession plan will be discussed at short notice.

In addition, it was said that Hitzlsperger would “bring about further personnel decisions as quickly as possible, taking into account the special labor law conditions for employees”.

The data affair and its processing have been a burden for VfB for months and are considered central issues in the power struggle between Hitzlsperger and President Claus Vogt, whose executive committee also seems to be at odds.

Between 2016 and 2018, the VfB is said to have repeatedly passed on tens of thousands of member data to third parties - among other things, to promote the outsourcing of the professional department that was decided in summer 2017.

Vogt commissioned the Esecon law firm to clarify the affair.

CEO Hitzlsperger had defended himself against allegations of influencing the investigations.
