Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The police and employees of the public order office checked on Saturday in Lübeck whether ice-skaters and tobogganers comply with the Corona distance rules.

At noon, numerous people cavorted on a frozen lake in the city park and on the river Wakenitz.

The authorities initially saw no reason to intervene.

Lübeck's Senator for the Interior, Ludger Hinsen (CDU), however, announced that he would keep an eye on the load-bearing capacity of the ice sheets on the waters.

If necessary, he will have the ice surfaces in question closed to avoid any danger, he said.

In the past few days, the police and the public order office had repeatedly registered crowds of people on and on the ice in the city park.

Mayor Jan Lindenau (SPD) already insisted on Tuesday that compliance with the applicable contact restrictions and distance regulations to contain the corona pandemic also apply to these areas.

In the event of violations, a short-term closure of the city park lakes is also conceivable, he said.
