Hanover (dpa / lni) - After the onset of winter, the situation on the motorways and rails in Lower Saxony continues to ease.

Deutsche Bahn announced that rail traffic is normalizing.

However, weather-related delays and cancellations over the Saturday should still be expected.

Trains are delayed on the route between Kiel and Basel as well as Kiel and Munich - they are diverted between Hanover and Göttingen.

Trains from Stralsund via Hamburg to Karlsruhe are no longer available between Hamburg and Karlsruhe.

Erixx GmbH trains on the Uelzen-Gifhorn-Braunschweig route are also affected.

No traffic is currently possible here, as the company announced on Saturday morning.

Due to the extreme cold, numerous switches and level crossings were frozen in both directions.

"A regular train service is no longer possible," it says in the message.

An attempt is being made to set up a replacement bus service.

It was initially unclear when the route could be used again.

The traffic situation on Lower Saxony's motorways was quieter on Saturday morning.

"No ice accidents, the parking spaces have been cleared," said a spokesman for the Garbsen autobahn police.

The situation should continue to ease over the course of the weekend.
