Prague / Cheb (dpa) - Due to the tightening of German entry regulations, the Czech fire brigade is setting up an additional corona test center at short notice.

It will be available from midnight on Sunday night in Pomezi nad Ohri in front of the Schirnding border crossing (Bavaria), a spokesman said on Twitter.

The target group are especially truck drivers who are exempt from the German entry ban.

You have to register online in advance and carry a negative corona test with you, which must not be older than 48 hours.

Further support measures will be discussed, it said.

Meanwhile, the Czech State Railways (Ceske Drahy) stopped cross-border traffic with Germany.

The last trains from the Federal Republic of Germany arrived in Decin and Domazlice in the evening.

The Eurocity connection between Prague and Berlin, which normally runs every two hours, is affected.

The federal government had declared the Czech Republic a «virus variant area».

This is accompanied by a transport ban.

The Ministry of Health in Prague reported 8,782 new corona cases within 24 hours on Saturday.

There have been more than a million confirmed infections and 18,058 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The EU member state has around 10.7 million inhabitants.
