Dresden (dpa / sn) - The Saxon liberals are against border closings for commuters from the Czech Republic.

In a message on Saturday, the FDP regional association instead called for rapid test centers to be adequately staffed.

The assumption of accommodation costs for commuters from the Czech Republic when the border was closed is not enough.

"The border closure for commuters leads to an intolerable situation for the middle class in Saxony," said state chief Frank Müller-Rosentritt.

Rather, with a negative test, entry for professional employment must be possible for all professional groups.

Saxony's companies are already facing enough challenges, he said.

"To take away part of your workforce now is beyond what is reasonable."

From Sunday midnight, strict rules for entering Germany from certain areas come into force.

The reason is the fear of more contagious variants of the coronavirus.

Then, among others, only Germans and foreigners with a residence and residence permit are allowed to enter from the Czech Republic.

There are exceptions for medical and nursing staff, truck drivers and seasonal workers in agriculture.
