13 February 2021 The fifth hearing of the impeachment trial against Donald Trump has started.

The former president is accused of instigating the uprising on Capitol Hill on January 6 with a speech in which he allegedly encouraged the violence.

Five people died in the assault on Congress, including a police officer, and over 140 were injured.

Meanwhile, there will be no witnesses at Donald Trump's impeachment trial in the Senate.

This is the agreement reached between the parties who only included in the minutes the written statement by Republican Congressman Jaime Herrera Beutler, which the Democrats wanted to testify on a phone call in which Trump was on the side of the rioters and access the notes of the GOP MP.

Initially, with 55 votes in favor and 45 against, the Senate approved the motion for the convocation of witnesses and the acquisition of documents, but an agreement was then reached between the parties and Beutler's testimony was only recorded and the his written statements were read in the courtroom.

The process then moves towards the final grade after the concluding arguments.

Specifically, Jaime Herrera Beutler said he heard from the leader of the Republican minority in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, the account of a phone call with Trump while the Congressional assault he is accused of instigating was underway.

Trump, then President, had refused to intervene to stop the rioters.

The Senate session was suspended for the drafting of a plan to listen to witnesses while the defense of Donald Trump said that he had a list of 300 texts ready, as reported by CNN.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump said he was "stunned" by the Senate's green light to the Democrats' request to hear witnesses at the impeachment trial, a request that could have delayed the trial for weeks.
