Hamburg (dpa / lby) - SpVgg Greuther Fürth has underpinned its ambitions for promotion to the Bundesliga with a point at Hamburger SV that was outnumbered.

The Franks were able to rate the 0-0 in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga on Saturday as a success.

The gap to HSV and Holstein Kiel, who occupy the two direct promotion places, is still three points.

From the 57th minute on, the people of Fürth had to get by with ten men.

Midfielder Sebastian Ernst was given a highly controversial yellow-red card after a duel with Aaron Hunt.

Ernst accidentally stepped on his ankle while fighting for the ball.

The Fürth jumped at least until Sunday on the relegation rank.

The Hamburg team expanded their series without defeat to eleven games (seven wins, four draws).

In the duel of the strongest offensive teams in the 2nd division, both Fürth's coach Stefan Leitl and HSV coach Daniel Thioune expected a match with many goals, but were wrong.

Thioune had sworn his team to an aggressive game management in Fürth ball possession and thus success.

The hosts fought for the larger shares of the game against the safe francs.

Scoring chances were limited on both sides because the defensive rows hardly allowed themselves to make mistakes.

HSV striker Simon Terodde had the greatest chance of scoring (63rd minute), but was unable to push the ball over the line after a pass from Sonny Kittel that was worth seeing.
