Dresden (dpa / sn) - The number of new corona infections in Saxony has fallen below the next mark.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the incidence - the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - for the Free State on Saturday as 68.4 (as of February 13, 12 midnight), after 71.0 the day before.

Nationwide, the value on Saturday was 60.1.

The district of Zwickau (54.3) and the state capital Dresden remained just above the important threshold of 50, the city of Leipzig below with 47.5.

The Vogtlandkreis continues to have the highest incidence nationwide with 114.6.

According to the RKI, 187 061 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the pandemic began almost a year ago.

Within one day, their number rose by 124 and that of those who died from or with the coronavirus by 12 to 7,106.

A few days can pass between the reporting of cases by doctors and laboratories to the health department and the transmission of the data to the responsible state authorities and the RKI.

In addition, there is less testing and reporting on weekends.
