Los Angeles (AP) - The main actors from the romance "Love Story", Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal, have been immortalized with star plaques on the "Walk of Fame".

The celebration for the presentation of the two stars on Hollywood Boulevard took place online on Friday due to the coronavirus pandemic.

MacGraw (81), O'Neal (79) and several guest speakers were added via video.

The award took place shortly before Valentine's Day on February 14th, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the classic film, which premiered in the USA in December 1970.

MacGraw said at the award that she was so lucky to make such a successful film with O'Neal.

He was happy to live long enough to receive this Hollywood award, said O'Neal, visibly moved.

Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones said as a guest speaker, both would have deserved this honor.

The 74-year-old made his first small film appearance as a young actor in "Love Story".

He was “incredibly proud” of his mother, said Josh Evans (50), the only son of MacGraw from her marriage to the legendary film producer Robert Evans (“Love Story”, “The Godfather”).

O'Neal had son Patrick (53) by his side.

The "Love Story" romance between the Harvard student Oliver (O'Neal) from a wealthy family, who marries the beautiful but improperly poor Jenny (MacGraw) against his father's wishes and ends up losing her to cancer, touched millions of moviegoers to tears.

Director Arthur Hiller's melodrama received seven Oscar nominations, including for the two leading actors.

They became Hollywood's dream couple on screen overnight.

MacGraw later starred alongside Steve McQueen in the thriller "The Getaway", O'Neal had other hits with "Is' what, Doc?", "Paper Moon" and "Barry Lyndon".

The two stars (No. 2692 and No. 2693) are set side by side on the sidewalk of the promenade in the heart of Hollywood.

Next to the O'Neal plaque is the star of his longtime partner, Farrah Fawcett.

The actress died of cancer in 2009.

Double honors on the “Walk of Fame” are rare.

For example, the actors Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were celebrated with two star plaques next to each other in 2017.

In 2012, the actor couple Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy received joint stars.
