Real Madrid president Florentino Perez contacted captain Sergio Ramos after weeks of tension between the two parties due to the lack of agreement on renewing Ramos' contract, which expires next June.

The past weeks have witnessed various leaks about Ramos' future, and the latest reports from the Spanish press close to the royal club have indicated that Ramos will not continue with Real Madrid due to a disagreement over the term of the new contract and salary.

Ramos, 34, is demanding a two-year contract, while the Real Madrid administration insists on a one-season contract, as is the case in the team’s policy when renewing for players over the age of 30.

The Real Madrid leader insists on getting his full salary, at a time when the administration is demanding a reduction in the aim of contributing to achieving the team's financial balance, after the decline in revenues due to the Corona crisis.

In light of this atmosphere, MARCA stated that the president of Real Madrid contacted Ramos over the past few days in order to reassure his health after the player underwent knee surgery last week.

The Spanish newspaper stated that the two parties agree to maintain the friendly relationship between them regardless of the outcome of the negotiations, and whether Ramos will continue with Real Madrid or not.

She indicated that Ramos and Perez also agree that the priority now is to focus on leading the team to the competition for the available titles for the remainder of the current season.

She also said that Real's management is aware that Ramos played the past period despite his suffering from knee pain, and decided to undergo surgery when doctors confirmed that there is no way to continue ignoring those pain.

"Marca" concluded with certainty that Real Madrid's doors will remain open to Ramos, even if he decides to leave at the end of the current season, and reminded a number of players who returned to the team after retirement, including Raul, Guti and Iker Casillas.
