Chemnitz (dpa) - The Niners Chemnitz caused a surprise on the 18th matchday of the basketball Bundesliga.

The team of coach Rodrigo Pastore won on Friday evening against Brose Bamberg with 85:82 (43:49).

The best throwers in the promoted team were Marcus Thornton (23 points) and George King (19).

After the sixth win of the season, the Chemnitz ranks with twelve points in the secured middle of the table.

The Niners dominated the first quarter and convinced with fast plays and several successful distance throws.

After an 8-0 lead (2nd minute), the Saxons gradually expanded their lead to eleven points (27: 16/8).

In the second section, the Bambergers defended more aggressively and presented the Chemnitz with problems in the attack.

The Niners only got eleven points, while the guests converted three three-point throws into a series immediately before the break and went into the cabin with a 49:43 lead.

After the break, the game initially remained even.

The Pastore team fought their way back in the fourth quarter and, after a 10-0 run and a successful lay-up from Terrell Harris, were ahead with 77:68 in the 37th minute.

Then the Niners gambled away their lead again.

Bamberg equalized eight seconds before the end to 82:82.

With the last throw of the game Thornton ensured the acclaimed Chemnitz home win.
