Innsbruck (dpa) - Strict exit restrictions have come into force for the Austrian state of Tyrol.

Leaving the federal state for Germany or for neighboring Austrian federal states is only possible in the next ten days with a negative corona test, which must not be older than 48 hours.

The measure is intended to help prevent the spread of the South African corona variant, which has frequently occurred in Tyrol.

According to the authorities, around 1200 police officers and soldiers are used for the close-knit controls.

A violation can cost up to 1450 euros.

Excluded from this rule are children as well as goods traffic and transit without a stopover.

The federal government wants to react to the spread of the South African corona variant in Tyrol with its own measures from Sunday.

According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the Czech Republic and Tyrol were classified as so-called virus mutation areas on Thursday.

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) decided to introduce temporary border controls at the borders with the Czech Republic as well as the internal border controls with Austria that have existed since the refugee crisis, a spokesman said.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) explained on Thursday evening in the ZDF program “Markus Lanz” that anyone who then came from Tyrol or the Czech Republic would have to present a negative corona test.

There are no exceptions.
