Wörlitz / Dessau-Roßlau (dpa / sa) - The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm is a dream for nature lovers - even in winter.

“Like in a fairy tale”, a spokesman for the cultural foundation described the sight through the heavy snowfall.

"Nevertheless, caution is required."

The reason is the ice under the snow and on the water.

The cultural foundation would ask all guests to stay on the paths for their own safety.

Entering the ice rinks on the water is prohibited, as is ice skating.

Meanwhile, the castles are traditionally closed in winter.

Like all museums in the country, the buildings are closed to visitors because of the corona pandemic.

The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

Leopold III.

Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau (1740-1817) had the 142 square kilometer park and cultural landscape built with castles, temples and canals.

The Prince's trips to Italy, such as the bridges and canals of Venice or Vesuvius, were the inspiration.

In summer Wörlitz also served as a residence.
