Kordel (dpa / lrs) - The road near Kordel north of Trier, which broke away after a landslide, should be back in the second week of March.

“That is still our goal,” said the Landesbetrieb Mobility (LBM) Rhineland-Palatinate in Koblenz to the German press agency.

The prerequisite is that the current frost allows further work.

Construction work on the road crater began earlier this week.

Since the landslide on February 1st, the only connection road to the Hochmark district with around 40 residents has been cut.

After heavy rainfall, the K29 road collapsed over a length of around ten meters and about four meters deep.

A car and an unloaded timber truck slid into the crater on the steep slope - the drivers were injured.

The hole is now many meters bigger, because a ramp had to be built to rescue the transporter.

The LBM put the repair costs at a “low, six-digit euro amount”.

The residents of the Hochmark district, which is cut off by road, have now organized themselves well, as resident Sonja Reuter-Höling said.

You could only get from the hill to the valley by off-road vehicle over forest paths.

There are agreements on shopping and car pooling.

"It's all a bit more complicated than usual, but it can be done."
