Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hesse wants to make its contribution to supporting airports in the Corona crisis.

"In accordance with the state's already known promise, we would basically double the portion of federal aid allocated to Frankfurt Airport," said the Hessian Ministry of Finance on Friday when asked.

What amount of federal aid is due to the largest German airport and the exact conditions would have to be clarified further.

The federal finance and transport ministries had agreed on a rescue package for airports.

Hesse's Ministry of Finance welcomed the agreement.

"We are assuming that the federal states will now be informed promptly and included in the next steps."

The package provides, among other things, that the federal government wants to help twelve larger airports of high importance in terms of transport policy, which it does not own, with 200 million euros in non-repayable grants.

This also includes the largest German airport, Frankfurt.

It is about the reimbursement of costs for keeping airports open at the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The prerequisite for the support of the federal government is that the respective states make a grant of the same amount and no dividends are distributed for 2020 and no bonuses are paid to managing directors and board members of the operating companies.

Airports like Kassel Airport have to get by without direct federal funding.

In addition to ongoing support for this airport, Hessen is currently not planning any additional payments from state funds, according to the Ministry.
