"Thank you for your wishes, I'm fine and can't wait to start (the season) 2021. Let's go yyyyyyy," Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso tweeted on Friday, with upper jaw surgery after a bicycle accident in Switzerland Thursday.

This operation made it possible to repair a fracture, announced his Alpine team (ex-Renault), a little earlier in the day in a press release.

"The medical team that followed him is satisfied with his progress," she said. Fernando will remain under observation in the hospital (in Switzerland, Editor's note) for 48 additional hours. "

"After a few days of complete rest, he will be able to resume his training gradually. We expect him to be fully operational to prepare for the season," added the French team, one month away from pre-season testing, from March 12 to 14 in Bahrain, and a month and a half before the first Grand Prix, on March 28 in Bahrain.

According to the Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, the accident took place near Lugano, in southern Switzerland, where Alonso resides.

The two-time F1 world champion was reportedly hit by a car.

The Spaniard, crowned in 2005 and 2006 at Renault, must make his return to F1 this year, at Alpine, after two years of absence following his last difficult years at McLaren.

During this period, he participated in the World Endurance Championship (winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 and 2019 and the world title in 2018-2019), the Indianapolis 500 and the Dakar.

The 39-year-old will be one of the two veterans of the field this season with the Finnish Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo), 41.

He has won 32 Grand Prix victories in his F1 career (the last in 2013), for a total of 97 podiums (the last in 2014).
