A senior US State Department official met with Taiwan's representative in the United States.

It is the first time that a senior U.S. government official has met with a Taiwanese representative since the inauguration of the Biden administration, and it seems that it aims to restrain China.

On the 10th, the US State Department announced on Twitter that Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sung Kim, who oversees East Asian policy, had a meeting with Taiwanese authorities' representative agency, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States.

He added, "The United States is deepening its relationship with Taiwan, which is an important partner in economics and security and has excellent democracy," and emphasized the significance of the talks.

Mr. Xiao also posted on his Twitter account, "It was a good meeting. We discussed a lot about mutual interests."

It is the first time since the inauguration of the Biden administration that it has become clear that a senior US government official and Taiwan's representative in the United States have met.

Xiao is the first Taiwanese ambassador to be officially invited to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony last month after his 1979 diplomatic relations with the United States.

The Biden administration has set out a stance against Taiwan, which is increasing military and diplomatic pressure, and it seems that this meeting also aims to restrain China by strengthening relations with Taiwan.
