London (dpa) - Duchess Meghan (39) hopes in the legal dispute with the publisher of the tabloid "Mail on Sunday" for an end to the mud fight.

Today the responsible court in London wants to decide whether you can be spared the main trial with testimony and a decision will only be made on the basis of the evidence already submitted.

If the judge approves Meghan's application, it is not ruled out that he will subsequently announce the judgment.

The wife of Prince Harry (36) had started the process with a lawsuit about the partial publication of a letter to her father, Thomas Markle (76).

She wanted to protect her private life better from the gaze of tabloid journalists.

So far, the process had proven to be more of a boomerang for Meghan.

Numerous details about the dispute with her father came to light from the hearings and meeting documents.

The two have been in a clinch since Meghan's wedding with Harry in spring 2018.

Thomas Markle had canceled his participation in the spectacle with hundreds of thousands of onlookers in Windsor at short notice - because of health reasons, as he portrays it.

Since then, the two have fallen out.

The senior himself had given Meghan's handwritten letter to the journalists of the “Mail on Sunday”.

He wanted to rehabilitate his public image, he justified the move.

Previously, friends of Meghan's had portrayed him in a bad light in an interview, he thinks.

Meghan said she wanted to clear the table with the letter.

But according to Thomas Markle, there was nothing but criticism in it.

“The letter didn't say that she loved me.

It didn't even ask how I was doing.

There was no concern about the fact that I had suffered a heart attack, and no questions about my health, ”said a written statement in court.

Thomas Markle is certain that Meghan wanted to terminate the father-daughter relationship with the letter.

From Meghan and Harry's point of view, the pensioner himself has become a victim of the media.

The former actress accuses journalists of having started the argument with her father in order to be able to report on it.

Thomas Markle was harassed, exploited, manipulated and humiliated, according to a statement from Meghan's lawyer.

According to Megan's lawyers, the bride's father had canceled his participation in the wedding a few days before his heart attack because he was ashamed of a report in the "Mail on Sunday".

The paper had revealed that Markle had posed for posed paparazzi shots that were supposed to show him preparing for the festival.

To the annoyance of the Royals, Thomas Markle has had himself interviewed again and again since then and unpacked for money, as he now openly admits - an unforgivable break of taboo for the British royal family.

At the core of the proceedings in court, however, is the question of how much right to privacy royals like Meghan and Harry can claim and how heavy the public's right to information about the super celebrities is.

The two now live with their one-year-old son Archie in Santa Barbara, California, after saying goodbye to the inner circle of the British royal family less than a year ago.

The desire to live without constant observation by the tabloid media also played a role here.

The independence from public funds, which they have now gained, should speak in their favor.

On the other hand, the two are now marketing nothing but their own celebrity with multi-million dollar deals with streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify.

That, in turn, could indicate that they have to accept it when the unflattering aspects of their lives are reported.
