Chinanews.com, Phnom Penh, February 11 (Reporter Ouyang Kaiyu) Fang Qiaosheng, chairman of the Cambodian-Chinese Council, issued a New Year message on the 11th, saying that 2021 is a year full of hopes. All sectors of society go hand in hand to make new contributions to Cambodia’s economic prosperity, to the prosperity of the Chinese community, and to the everlasting friendship between Cambodia and China.

Fang Qiaosheng pointed out that 2020 is an extraordinary year. Cambodia has been raged by the new crown pneumonia epidemic and also suffered from floods, resulting in a complicated development environment and severely affecting the country's economic development and people's lives.

In this very difficult year, under the leadership of the Cambodian government headed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, effective epidemic prevention and disaster relief measures have been taken, and the country’s social stability and economy have gradually returned to a normal track of development.

Fang Qiaosheng thanked his ancestral (home) country and the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia for their long-term care and support for Cambodia and the Chinese and overseas Chinese, and provided emergency assistance to Cambodia for the new crown vaccine. This fully reflects the profound friendship between the Chinese and Cambodian people.

He introduced that the past 2020 is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Cambodian Chinese Council. As the largest organization of the Cambodian Chinese Society, we actively cooperate with the Royal Government’s strategic policy of maintaining peace and development of the country, and actively cooperate with the Royal Government in its poverty alleviation and relief efforts. Public welfare activities include supporting the Royal Government’s anti-epidemic measures, raising funds to distribute living supplies for the victims of the disaster, funding the Kunta Baohua (Children’s Hospital) Foundation, and so on.

At the same time, in education, we continue to fund all Cambodian Chinese schools to run schools, subsidize teachers' salaries, open a teacher training center to cultivate local Chinese teachers, and prepare for the establishment of a Cambodian Polytechnic University to cultivate elite talents for the country's future development.

At the same time, we also plan to build a Cambodian Hua Health Care Center to provide living security for senior Chinese and senior teachers who work in the Chinese community and contribute to Chinese education and enjoy their twilight years.

"2021 is a year full of hope. All my colleagues in the Cambodia-China Council will work hand in hand with all sectors of society to make new contributions to Cambodia's economic prosperity, the prosperity of the Chinese community, and the everlasting friendship between Cambodia and China." (End)
