In the impeachment process against ex-US President Donald Trump, the prosecutors presented a lot of evidence of how he should have incited his supporters to violence long before the storm on the Capitol.

Prosecutors traced the attack on the Capitol to the minute.

Among them were shaky videos from the ranks of the rioters who overran security barricades, invaded the Capitol with brute force, attacked security guards, and devastated offices and meeting rooms.

They played police radio recordings in which officials desperately called for reinforcements.

Images from body cameras of police officers who were beaten down were also shown.

Security camera footage from inside the convention building showed the mob spreading inside the Capitol, bringing MPs, senators and staff, and Vice President Mike Pence to safety.

The litany of examples shows Trump's "obvious intention" when he urged his supporters to travel to Washington, Chief Prosecutor Jamie Raskin said Thursday.

The ex-president later appealed to his supporters to "fight the devils" before they besieged the Capitol shortly afterwards.

Raskin showed earlier video clips in which Trump first encouraged violence and then approved it.

His call to a crowd could be seen at one of his campaign appearances to "beat the shit out" of a demonstrator.

If they did, he would even pay for their legal fees, Trump promised his audience.

Another clip showed how he said it was "very, very appropriate" for some of his supporters to attack a protester at his rally.

"It's something we need a little more of."

The Democrats also presented evidence that Trump had shown no concern about people at risk.

He also has not regretted his role in threats to other people - for example when the governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, was the target of a plot of white racists in her state.

Members of the prosecution team also reported again on their personal experiences of that day.

MP Madeleine Dean told how she and other MPs were stuck in the House of Representatives plenary when rioters pounded on the door of the boardroom.

"I will never forget that sound," she said through tears.

"This attack would never have happened without Donald Trump."
