It was ten years ago, Hosni Mubarak announced his resignation after having spent thirty years in power.

Popular pressure got the better of the old raïs and the military regime.

But hopes will be short-lived.

Barely two years later, the army returned to power.

And today, at least 60,000 political prisoners inhabit Egyptian jails.

Traffic has resumed its rights on Tahrir Square.

But from January 25 to February 11, 2011, tens of thousands of Egyptians occupied the nerve center of Cairo and obtained the departure of Hosni Mubarak.

Ahmed was there: “

It was a very strange and very strong feeling.

I can still feel it today.

It's something unexpected that we would never have dreamed of

”.

Quickly, elections are organized, won by the Muslim Brotherhood.

But a year later, the army regained power in a coup.

Since then, in the name of the fight against terrorism, any questioning of the executive has been repressed.

“

What we see in Egypt is thousands and thousands of opponents just because the authorities have seen a few posts criticizing the regime on their Facebook page.

They are accused of one of the most serious crimes that can exist: terrorism

”, explains Mohamed Lotfy, director of the ECRF, a human rights organization.

Ten years after the fall of Hosni Mubarak, hopes for change are now far behind.

People were kissing, crying.

It was a great start, but at the end of the day it started to look less beautiful.

There were a lot of people, the left, the Islamists, everyone was there, everyone had a common project, agreed on everything ... until Mubarak left, when everyone understood that 'there was a big cake recovered and that everyone now had to fight for their own survival, for their agenda.
