The French government has decided to abandon the project to extend Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport, near Paris, deeming it "obsolete" in the context of global warming, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, in an interview with Le Monde.

"The government has asked ADP to abandon its project and present it with a new one, more consistent with its objectives of combating climate change and protecting the environment," Barbara Pompili told the newspaper.

The construction of terminal # T4 at Roissy airport is an obsolete project, incompatible with the #ClimatResilience law.

"Green aviation leaders"

In a press release, ADP said it took note of the government's request to abandon the Terminal 4 project at this airport and said it was ready to initiate a reflection on the subject.

"Work to revise the initial project had been undertaken in recent months (...) This work carried out by the teams of the ADP group will be the basis for future reflections on the challenges of fitting out the Paris-Charles de Gaulle platform", writes the operator of Roissy and Orly airports.

"Air transport must accelerate its energy transition (...) The Parisian platforms aim to become leaders in green aviation, at the service of all our stakeholders, and in particular the areas bordering the airport", underlines Augustin de Romanet, the CEO of the group, quoted in the press release.

The Roissy extension project, estimated between 7 and 9 billion euros, was to accommodate up to 40 million additional passengers per year by 2037 and absorb around 450 more flights each day, specifies Le Monde.

"It is an obsolete project, which no longer corresponded to the environmental policy of the government and to the requirements of a sector in full transformation, turned towards the green plane of tomorrow", judged Barbara Pompili.
