Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Lufthansa’s cargo subsidiary, which is flourishing in the Corona crisis, is fighting hard for future pilot positions.

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) association has long held the group to shift its business from Lufthansa Cargo to the tariff-free and therefore cheaper company Aerologic, a joint venture operated jointly with Deutsche Post.

The VC is now criticizing the fact that Lufthansa Cargo is buying one less aircraft when changing its fleet than originally promised.

Cargo spokesman Andreas Pauker confirmed on Thursday that it will initially remain with the nine Boeing 777 freighters that are already in service.

The acquisition of a tenth machine is not ruled out, but is currently not certain, he said.

The VC, however, thinks that ten machines have been promised.

The portal Aero.de had previously reported.

Around 30 pilot positions are attached to each jet, so that the VC assumes around 300 to 330 positions for 10 Boeing planes.

Currently, however, around 450 pilots are still working for LH Cargo, which has kept four jets of the outdated type MD11 in the fleet longer than planned due to the high demand for freight.

They should be taken out of service by autumn this year, explained Pauker.

VC tariff board member Marcel Gröls criticized the procedure harshly and wrote in the short message service Twitter: “In the crisis, LH Cargo is solid as a rock for the group.

As a thank you, the team should be downsized and the sister company Aerologic, without a collective agreement, should grow.

There is no more efficient way of scaring off your team. "
