February 10, 2021 The Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) "recommends that the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine should ideally be administered during the 12th week (78 to 84 days) and in any case at least 10 weeks apart (63 days ) from the first dose ".

The indication is satisfied in the new circular of the Ministry of Health 'Update available vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19'.

The vaccine, according to phase 3 studies, showed an efficacy of 62.1%.

It also guarantees, as stated by the company, "100%" coverage against serious illness and the risk of hospitalization.

The vaccination course with 'Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca', as stated in the circular, consists of two separate doses (0.5 ml each).

Aifa, "noting that the data currently available indicate that already after 4 weeks after the first dose a level of effective protection is reached which is maintained up to 12 / a week - clarifies the circular - and that, as regards the effect of second dose, this appears more consistent the closer we get to week 12, recommends that the second dose should ideally be administered during week 12 ".

These indications may undergo modifications during the vaccination campaign "on the basis of new scientific evidence".

The vaccine is available in multidose vials containing 8 doses or 10 doses of 0.5 ml each.

In Italy, at the moment, it is emphasized in the document formed by the Director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health Gianni Rezza, "only vials containing 10 doses are distributed".

The unopened multidose vial should be stored in a refrigerator (2øC - 8øC) and should not be frozen.
