Since the turn of the year, a special drone card is required to fly drones.

So far, just over 8,500 Swedes have taken the card, in Västerbotten only 272 drone cards have been issued.

Significantly fewer than the number of drones that the Swedish Transport Agency calculates are in the community.

- It probably depends on the weather and season, says Rémi Vesvre, management strategist at the Swedish Transport Agency in a press release.

The Swedish Transport Agency believes that those who initially took the drone card are the professional drone pilots and that those who have flying as a hobby are waiting for winter to release its grip.

- The hobby pilots are found mainly in the younger age groups and they fly mainly in slightly warmer weather.

We believe that we will see an increase in that target group in the spring, says Rémi Vesvre.

The new rules, which apply throughout the EU, have been developed due to an expected increase in drones in the airspace.
