Halle (dpa / sa) - Tourism in Saxony-Anhalt collapsed in the face of the corona pandemic last year.

The accommodation businesses counted around six million overnight stays in 2020: the 5.97 million overnight stays were accounted for by around 2.2 million guest arrivals, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday.

According to the information, both values collapsed by about a third compared to the previous year due to the corona pandemic and the associated lockdowns.

The decrease was particularly drastic because of the Corona requirements, with a 57 percent decrease in the number of foreign guests, the authority said.

The accommodation establishments counted only 116,000 arrivals from foreigners.

On a monthly basis, last December the businesses experienced a very sharp decline with 77 percent fewer overnight stays compared to the same month last year.

However, they recorded the highest decline with a minus of 84 percent in overnight stays in the first lockdown in April 2020.
