Strömstad residents, health centers and other activities in the municipality are praised by the infection control doctor Thomas Wahlberg during Wednesday's press conference on the covid situation in Västra Götaland.
- I would like to direct a very big praise to the people of Strömstad who have taken the sharp increase in the number of sick people very seriously and that they have contributed to reducing the spread of infection in the municipality, he says.
According to him, it is important that the upward curve has been broken and that last week only 74 new cases were reported, which is a decrease of 30 percent compared to the week before.
- I would also like to point out that there is nothing to suggest that the outbreak in Strömstad was caused by the British tribe.

As for the number of inpatients in hospitals who are ill with covid-19, there are no major changes compared to last week.
346 patients, of which 57 of them, receive intensive care in Västra Götaland.
According to the director of health and medical care, Ann Söderström, this is a continuing tough situation for the hospitals in the region.
- The continued decline that we had hoped for has not materialized.
The only way to bring the curve down is to reduce the spread of infection in society and then the pressure on care decreases, says Ann Söderström.
The number of confirmed cases of covid-19 was 4160 last week and this is roughly what it has looked like in the last three weeks.
The fact that the rate of decline is stagnant is worrying.
- The number of cases has settled to a fairly high level and we have not received the decline as we would have liked and there is great concern that it may mean that it is on its way up again, says Thomas Wahlberg.
Largest in the west
It is in the western parts of Västra Götaland that the increase in infection is greatest, in the Gothenburg area and Fyrbodal, while it decreases in Skaraborg, Borås and Sjuhäradsbygden.
- It is important that we follow all the advice to the letter so that it does not drag away further.
