The Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claude Joseph, affirms that calm has returned and the situation "under control" in Haiti after the incidents of recent days.

He considers that the questioning of the duration of the mandate of President Jovenel Moïse by the opposition is a political maneuver.

Claude Joseph denounces an attempted coup d'état and even an assassination against the head of state.

He accuses a judge of the Court of Cassation of being behind this attempt, adding that solid evidence exists on his involvement and is the subject of a judicial investigation.

It is because of these serious suspicions, according to him, that this judge as well as two other magistrates of the Court, are the subject of a presidential decree putting them with the retirement.

The Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs also rejects the fears expressed by the United States and the United Nations on the legality of this decree, explaining that the gravity of the facts justified the decision.

He denies any dictatorial drift of President Jovenel and any intention on his part to modify the constitution in order to be able to run again.

According to Claude Joseph, the expression of the popular will is done through the ballot box and not through violence.
