Hanover (dpa / lni) - According to the SPD, teachers and daycare educators are to be vaccinated against Covid-19 earlier than previously planned in the Lower Saxony state parliament.

Instead of in phase 3 of the vaccinations, like people over 70 years of age and police officers, they should be given a chance in phase 2, said SPD parliamentary group leader Johanne Modder on Wednesday in Hanover.

"I think that the employees in schools and daycare centers are well placed to give them security."

The reason is that these professions have to do with people for whom vaccination has not yet been planned.

The priorities for corona vaccinations result from an ordinance of the CDU-led Federal Ministry of Health.

Your request is therefore a "heartfelt request to the federal government," said Modder.

"Perhaps the CDU can help a little with Mr. Spahn's Ministry of Health."

So far, the vaccination campaign is still in phase 1 for people who are particularly at risk.

Last week, the SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach had already advertised a preferred vaccination for primary school teachers.

At the state level, the Lower Saxony City Council on Tuesday spoke in favor of vaccinating educators and firefighters earlier than provided for in the ordinance.
