Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) has put the prospect of easing for small parts of the economy in Rostock and the Western Pomerania-Rügen district on a test basis.

"We want to see whether we open a test or two in Rostock and Vorpommern-Rügen to see how it goes," said Schwesig on Wednesday evening.

In Rostock and Western Pomerania-Rügen, the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days is already below 35. Schwesig did not mention a point in time for the start of the test run.

More details will be discussed on Thursday in the economic task force, said the head of government.

However, she has already made it clear: In order to prevent large numbers of people from regions with higher numbers of infections traveling to Rostock and Western Pomerania-Rügen, the retail trade and restaurants could not be opened.

Rather, one should think of small, definable areas of the economy.

The industry should check this with the municipalities.

"And as soon as there is a suggestion there, we will consider whether and how we can implement it."

The Prime Ministers of the federal states and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) decided on Wednesday to extend the lockdown in Germany until March 7th.

Openings after this should be made dependent on an incidence value of less than 35.
