According to him, the attack was carried out from the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone, controlled by illegal armed groups.

"At 19:45 Moscow time on February 9, Russian air defense means repelled an attack on the Khmeimim airbase using long-range multiple launch rocket systems," RIA Novosti quotes him.

Sytnik noted that there was no casualty or material damage as a result of the shelling.

"The Russian airbase Khmeimim is operating as planned," he added.

Earlier, at the Khmeimim airbase in Syria, vaccination of military personnel against COVID-19 began.
