Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) wants to gradually reopen daycare centers and primary schools after the carnival holidays on February 22nd.

The federal and state governments agreed at their conference on Wednesday that the extended corona lockdown should first be relaxed at this point.

"And that's why we will gradually open the elementary schools on February 22nd," said Kretschmann that evening in Stuttgart.

The same should apply to daycare centers.

The prerequisite for both openings is that the number of infections allows them.

There is also another relaxation: Hairdressers are allowed to reopen from March 1st.

Kretschmann asked for understanding that the lockdown with the extensive contact restrictions will continue until March 7th.

Even if the number of infections in the southwest is at the nationwide lowest level, the highly contagious virus mutations threatened to undo this success again.

Therefore, it is still too early for further relaxation.

"We must not let up now, otherwise we risk a third wave," warned the Green politician.

"Even tougher measures would then be necessary than we already have."
