Hamburg (dpa / lno) - Hamburg will implement the resolutions agreed by the federal and state governments to extend the corona lockdown without changes.

This is necessary in view of the risks posed by virus mutants, said Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) on Wednesday evening after discussions between the state heads of government and the chancellor.

The Corona numbers in the Hanseatic city are currently pointing in the “right direction.

(...) But we don't know how long this will continue. "

The situation is still uncertain in view of the virus mutants, so one must assume that “the situation will become more difficult,” he warned.

The incidence, ie the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, must be further reduced significantly - "to below 35 in order to gain security and not suffer the risk of a third wave".

The tough restrictions that have been in force since December would therefore "initially be extended to March 7, and all principles continue to apply".

Only the hairdressers are likely to reopen from March 1, because it turned out that their closure is "an urgent problem in everyday life for many people".

This applies above all to older people, who often can no longer do their own hair.

"Therefore this one exception."

From the agreement that the federal states can open schools and daycare centers earlier, Hamburg is initially not making use of the spring break, which begins on March 1, said Tschentscher.

As long as the compulsory attendance at the schools remains suspended and the daycare centers in extended emergency operation.

With a view to the two-week vacation, the mayor said the situation still does not allow private travel.

"There shouldn't be a vacation trip this year."

Tschentscher described the decreased seven-day incidence as "very good news".

Now the value in Hamburg is below 70, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) even below 60. However, experts warned of the mutants that had already spread in Great Britain, Portugal and other countries.

The RKI has so far assumed that five to six percent of infections in Germany are caused by the British variant.

"How quickly it increases (...), all of that has not yet been adequately established," said Tschentscher.

According to the health authority, only seven infections with the British corona mutant B.1.1.7 had been detected in Hamburg by Wednesday.

There is also a case with the South African mutant B.1.135 and another variant called B.1.258.

The Brazilian variant B.1.1.28 has not yet been detected in Hamburg.

Clarification is still pending in a good twenty cases.

"Overall, the occurrence of mutation forms of the coronavirus has so far not played a significant role according to the currently available knowledge," said the spokesman for the health authority, Martin Helfrich.

When asked when the shops could all open again, Tschentscher said that he would like to say that.

"But since we are all not clairvoyant, not even science, (...) we cannot give a date for this."

According to the health authority, the currently open supermarkets and shops for everyday needs are not sources of infection.

Not all transmissions could be tracked.

But: "The responsible authorities have no evidence that supermarkets or other shops that are still open have been the sources of infection in the past few weeks."
