Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, members of the volunteer fire brigades and disaster control from the state are now receiving corona protective masks.

"By distributing free FFP2 masks to the volunteers, we want to give them a little security in the current situation and express our deep gratitude for their commitment," said Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) in Schwerin on Wednesday.

Even without the peculiarity of a pandemic, men and women put their health at risk for the safety of citizens every day.

"This commitment in volunteering is outstanding and deserves the greatest respect," emphasized Renz.

According to his information, a total of 58 600 of the masks will be sent to fire fighters and helpers in disaster control.

On Wednesday, the state government had already started the nationwide distribution of FFP2 masks.

Each household should receive six FFP2 masks.

The total number is 5.2 million, the costs were given as approximately 2.8 million euros.

FFP2 masks are among the medical masks that are supposed to protect better against virus transmissions than cloth masks and are prescribed, among other things, when traveling by local transport.
