Berlin (dpa / bb) - Doctors and nursing staff at Berlin hospitals should be able to be tested for the corona virus on a daily basis.

Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) has issued changes to an ordinance so that hospitals are obliged to offer daily rapid tests to staff working close to the patient.

The Senate Department for Health announced on Wednesday.

The change will come into effect on Sunday (February 14th).

For employees in nursing homes, it has been the case for around a week that they have to be tested for the virus every day - usually before they start work.

There have been repeated outbreaks in retirement homes and hospitals nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic.

With rapid tests, people in the contagious phase of the infection in particular can be reliably identified.
