Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The corona pandemic and the associated restrictions have affected the number of visitors to Saxony-Anhalt's zoos.
According to preliminary figures, around 275,000 guests came to Magdeburg last year, according to a spokeswoman.
That was about twelve percent less than in the previous year.
In addition to the closure in the first lockdown, the main reasons for this were the cancellation of all major events.
In addition, the number of visitors was limited after the reopening in April 2020 for pandemic reasons.
According to the information, this was also noticeable in the second lockdown.
The zoo can still receive people.
"Due to the Corana, visitors currently only come from the narrowest catchment area - this is clearly noticeable in the visitor statistics," said the zoo's spokeswoman.
The restrictions also have financial consequences: the zoo registered more than half a million euros in sales losses after 2020.
The Dessau zoo recorded only a slight decrease in visitors.
Including the guests of cultural events, 123 538 people came last year, as the city of Dessau-Roßlau announced.
In the previous year there were 123 874 visitors.
Despite the closure in lockdown and the cancellation of events, the past year has shown how important the facility is.

In contrast, the pandemic did not have a negative impact at Aschersleben Zoo.
After around 95,500 visitors in 2019, around 98,800 people came in 2020, the zoo announced.
Since the zoos were allowed to stay open in the second lockdown, there was even a slight increase in autumn.
Despite the permission to open, the mountain zoo in Halle decided in mid-December to close the zoo to visitors until the end of January due to the high number of infections in the city.
In mid-November, the zoo had assumed a decrease of around 100,000 guests for 2020.
