  • An association of traders and residents is calling for more action from the city of Nantes and the state in terms of security.

  • Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes, denounces the banners deployed which she considers as "controversial staging"

She had already been talked about in recent months by organizing rallies and marketing anti-aggression keyrings.

This Wednesday, the Sécurité Nocturne Nantes (S2N) association, which brings together traders and residents "exasperated by insecurity" in the sixth city of France, chose a slightly more spectacular mode of action: five banners were hung at busy places of passage.

The messages vary but have in common to pin the authorities (State and city of Nantes) on their “responsibility” vis-à-vis the facts of delinquency.

Two of them are aimed more particularly at the deputy mayor in charge of security, Pascal Bolo (PS).

“On social networks, he broaches the subject with a laugh.

And, at the last city council, he wielded irony and refused to respond to the opposition's remarks.

His attitude is disrespectful towards victims of assault, ”deplores Cyril, co-president of the association, followed by nearly 4,800 people on Facebook.

S2N, which claims to be "completely neutral politically", assumes its banners and asks the authorities for "actions", "more resources" and "results" so that Nantes "becomes again a city where it is good to live and go out".

Strong support for Pascal Bolo

The method employed and the personal attack targeting his deputy did not, in any case, please the mayor of Nantes, Johanna Rolland (PS) at all.

"I strongly denounce this type of instrumentalization and initiatives and reaffirm my full support, and all my confidence, for my deputy Pascal Bolo and all the public service teams mobilized on these issues", reacted Johanna Rolland.

“To invective, and to controversial staging, I prefer joint work and constructive exchanges, to move forward,” she added.

"We denounce the attack against one of the elected representatives of the majority and give him our full support in

his action," also underlined the various political groups of the municipal majority in a press release.

The month of January 2020 was marked by several acts of significant violence (shootings, kidnapping, escape to the CHU ...) in Nantes.

The town hall is currently recruiting additional municipal police officers and is preparing to extend the patrol hours.

The new metropolitan transport police have also been in service since mid-January.
