Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburg Environment Minister Axel Vogel (Greens) has not yet received an application from the US car manufacturer Tesla to build a battery factory at the Grünheide site near Berlin.

"If I don't know anything, I can't tell you anything," Vogel said on Wednesday in the Agriculture and Environment Committee of the Brandenburg State Parliament.

He only knows what Tesla has spread in the media.

Tesla boss Elon Musk communicated widely on “Battery Day” last year that the world's largest and greatest battery factory is to be built in Brandenburg soon.

But he doesn't know exactly what it should look like, said Minister Vogel.

You have to deal with different responsibilities and you are not in control of the procedure.

According to information from industry circles, a new cell type is to be produced in the battery factory, which has six times more power than previously commercially available cells.

According to this plan, the production of dry electrodes is planned, which would require significantly less space and energy.

The start of construction for the battery factory is still open.

According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, Tesla was allowed to start preparatory work in mid-January.

This work should begin without losing the later chance of federal funding. However, this should be seen regardless of a building permit or environmental permit.

The Federal Ministry of Economics is not responsible for this.

According to Tesla's plans, the car factory is to start producing vehicles in July - in an initial phase up to 500,000 cars per year with around 12,000 employees.
